Shield Argent three broom boughs Vert flowered proper and arrayed in fess, in chief two keys Azure with their wards pointing chiefwards arrayed in saltire and tied by a ribbon Gules, in base a plough Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "CODECEDA".
Meaning:
The word "codeceda" can be interpreted to mean "broom field", from "codeço", one of the Portuguese common names for the plant Adenocarpus complicatus of the botanical tribe Genisteae, named "broom" in English . These arms therefore are partly canting. The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint.

The two coats of arms differ essentially in the charge placed in chief — either a maize ear or a wyvern, and secondarily in the attitude of the two main charges.
Shield Vert two wheels Argent arrayed in fess with their spokes in pale, in chief a wyvern passant Or garnished Gules, issuant from base wavy Azure, charged with a bar Argent, a mound Or (see left image above).

both have a mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "PENASCAIS".
Meaning:
It is not known, which version was created later and which was favoured by whom. There is also no clue about the proposed flag pattern — any thing either plain or quartered is possible, except for black and purple.

The two slightly different designs didn´t progress a lot in the officialisation process, even though the blazoning seems fully compatible with the usual requirements.
