Presentation of Le Fieu

Le Fieu (497 inhabitants in 2021; 1,467 ha) is a commune in the Gironde department, in the confluence zone of the rivers Dronne and Isle. Between woods, vineyards and forests, the habitat is very scattered with several
hamlets. The village was amputated by half of its area during the 1970s. Indeed, Cogéma, now Orano (ex-Areva, the French nuclear fuel cycle company), having detected uranium in the subsoil, bought 40% of the
town’s territory This deposit has never been exploited.
