Established: 1961 as Nordrhein-Westfälischer Ruderverband
Currently it has as members altogether 106 rowing clubs, pupil rowing clubs and regatta clubs.

The pennant is white. At hoist are the state arms of Northrhine-Westphalia. On centre are two black oars in saltire with white blades fimbriated black and including black inscriptions "NW"(top) and "RV"(bottom).
