The municipality of Santa Amélia (3,385 inhabitants in 2018; 7,790 ha) is
located 350 km north-west of Curitiba.
The flag and arms of Santa Amélia
are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 677 promulgated on 21 September 1987. This
abrogated Municipal Law No. 332 promulgated in 1971 (not available).
Article 2.
The flag of the municipality of Santa Amélia was designed, in
accordance with heraldry, by Sebastião Ferrarini.
Article 3.
The flag
of the municipality of Santa Amélia shall be rectangular, green and yellow, in
proportions 14 units in width on 20 units in length, pursuant to Article 5 of
Federal Law No. 5,700 promulgated on 9 September 1971, with the following
characteristics.
a) The flag is composed of two equal scalene rectangles
[read, triangles], the lower one green and the upper one yellow.
b) The
imaginary line that separates the green from the yellow triangle starts from the
upper right angle (host side) going obliquely to the lower left angle.
c) The
geometric figure in the center of the flag, in which the coat of arms of the
municipality is applied, is a white circle, which symbolizes eternity, as it has
neither beginning nor end.
Article 8.
The coat of arms of the
municipality of Santa Amélia, which was designed, in accordance with heraldry,
by Sebastião Ferrarini, is composed of a Samnite shield, horizontally divided by
a wavy stripe argent (white) into two fields of unequal areas, presenting the
following features.
a) Upper part
The rectangular field above the wavy
stripe represents toponym "SANTA AMÉLIA". It features a rising sun shining
proper, representing the Brazilian man and the strength of Santa Amélia's
people, which is renewed every dawn, in search of solutions for the
municipality's progress.
The upper left part of the field features a white
(argent) dove, as a symbol of peace, a virtue worshiped in Santa Amélia, and
which expresses ideals of peace for the nation, to be strengthened in the
municipality, which is the nation's political and administrative cell.
b)
Wavy stripe
The white (argent) wavy stripe that crosses the shield
horizontally corresponds to the hydrography of the municipality of Santa Amélia,
represented by river Laranjinha, which serves as the boundary with the
municipality of Cornélio Procópio.
c) Lower part
The lower part of the
coat of arms of the municipality of Santa Amélia is divided into three parts,
described as follows:
1. The brown, central field represents the "terra roxa"
of Santa Amélia's territory. Over this field is a yellow escutcheon, which
corresponds to the municipality's magnitude and wealth of the municipality. The
white (silver) fleur-de-lis (lily) represents St. Joseph, patron saint of the
municipality, celebrated annually on 19 March.
2. The right (host side),
green field features a tractor driven by a technician, both in yellow, symbol of
the agricultural resources of the municipality of Santa Amélia.
3. The left,
green field features a yellow open book, which represents the maturity and
development of the municipality's culture.
d) Additional symbols.
Crown
The shield is surmounted by a mural crown of eight towers argent (white), with
black ports and windows, of which only five are visible. The mural crown
represents the authority of the municipality of Santa Amélia.
Supporters
The shield is supported on the right side (host side) by a branch of coffee
fructed proper, which represents the first and one of the main treasures of the
municipality, and on the left side, by a cotton plant flowered proper, which
represents the main agricultural resource of Santa Amélia.
Scroll
Underneath the shield a brown scroll joins the coffee branch to the cotton
plant, bearing the inscription, in white "11-14-1951 - Santa Amélia". The
inscription corresponds, respectively, to the date of creation of the
municipality and to its name.
Colors
Yellow is the image of maturity of
judgment, symbolizing nobleness, magnitude and wealth. Blue is the color of the
firmament, symbolizing justice, truth, loyalty and beauty. White is pure light,
symbolizing integrity, obedience, vigilance, peace and order. Brown represents
the earth. Its symbology is identified with the virtues and qualities described
for black. Black belongs to the domain of intelligence, symbolizing prudence,
rigor and honesty. Green denotes faith, symbolizing hope, freedom and strength.
