About the Flag

The municipality of Nova Tebas (5,856 inhabitants in 2018; 54,569 ha) is located 400 km west of Curitiba.

The flag and arms of Nova Tebas are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 36 promulgated on 2 July 1990.

Article 2.
The flag of the municipality of Nova Tebas is designed in proportions of 14 units in width on 20 units in length, with the following characteristics.
a) The flag is composed of four colors: celestial blue (azure) red (purpure), green (vert), and white (argent), obeying the following description.
The flag consists of three stripes, two of them of the same width, the upper, celestial blue stripe and the red stripe at the bottom to the rectangle, which are drawn horizontally. The third stripe in the flag's center, is white, and, on the left side of the rectangle, at hoist, is a green triangle. In the center of the rectangle, on the white stripe, is applied the municipal coat of arms, which symbolizes the municipal government and the seat of the municipality.
b) The blue color (azure) symbolizes the color of the firmament that covers the entire territory of the municipality. The white color (argent) symbolizes peace, friendship and religious spirit of Nova Tebas' people. The red color symbolizes struggle and victory, devotion, authority and greatness. The green (vert) triangle symbolizes hope, happiness, the greatness of meadows and grain crops.

Article 5.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Nova Tebas has the following meaning.
a) The mural crown that surmounts the shield is the universal symbol of domains; it is yellow, with eight towers, only five of them visible and another three in perspective drawing.
b) The shield is divided into four quarters and two escutcheons.
c) The first, left quarter, features an escutcheon in chief and a star in the center, which symbolizes the pioneer of the municipality, Greek Elias Papanastácio. Beneath the escutcheon in the same quarter, in the background, the dawn, the beautiful mountains and agriculture.
d) The right quarter features the second escutcheon, on the right, at the top and in the center, representing St. Peter, the municipality's patron saint. The same quarter features on the right a classroom, with a map of the state of Paraná in the background and, on a table, a terrestrial globe, a book and a pen that symbolize education and culture in the municipality.
e) The third, lower left quarter features green meadows and their wealth, livestock.
f) The fourth quarter features the municipality's mechanized fields.
g) The shield is supported by symbols of the municipality's income, on the right, coffee and cotton plants, and on the left, bean and maize plants.
h) The scroll beneath the coat of arms is inscribed "NOVA TEBAS", surrounded left by the creation date of the municipality "12/8/87", and on the right by its inauguration date, "01/01/89".
