located 250 west of Curitiba.
Manoel Ribas was established in the 1940s,
as Campinha / Campina Alta, on Gleba Santo Antonio, a vast domain owned by the
Lamenha Siqueira family. Most colonists, of German, Ukrainian and Italian
origin, came from Southern Santa Catarina.
The municipality of Manoel Ribas
was established by State Law No. 2,398 promulgated on 5 July 1955, separating
from Pitanga, and inaugurated on 8 July 1956. The new municipality was named for
the politician Manoel Ribas (1873-1946), "interventor" (~Governor) of Paraná
from 1932 to 1945.
