Description of the flag

In my trip to Colorado, I had the chance to go to Denver (very very nice by the way!) Then I came to visit Hard Rock Cafe, and I saw a flag waving outside of the restaurant. It is the first time I've seen a flag from this restaurant (I've been to the same restaurant in cities such as Miami, San Francisco, New York, Las Vegas, etc.) and have never seen a flag waving outside their facilities. This might be a new policy (who knows).

Description of the flag: Three stripes, equally divided in a horizontal manner, the top and bottom in black and the middle stripe in white. Logo in front. I was inside the Hard Rock Cafe in Denver, and got a chance to see their flag up close. The colors on the background are black and white and not maroon.

I have the photos Esteban sent me right here, and must beg to differ. The yelow disc is centered; The inscription "Hard Rock" occupies its upper half; and the white stripe is horizontally centered on the inscription. As for the colors, the photos were taken at night; I had assumed the dark parts were the same brown as the inscription.

The restaurant chain currently has 185 locations worldwide with venues in over 74 countries operating Cafes, Casinos and Hotels. The tradition to fill its restaurants with music memorabilia started in 1979 when musician Eric Clapton, a regular customer at the first restaurant in London, asked Isaac to hang his guitar over his bar stool to "mark his spot", a custom that was soon followed by musician Pete Townsend who quickly added a guitar and Debbie Harry who donated a signed sweatshirt, thus expanding the collection which was even augmented exponentially mainly by the acquisition of the Sotheby's '86 rock memorabilia auction to be displayed at several locations.

The logo was designed by British artist Alan Aldridge. It was based on Isaac Tigrett's (one of its founders) idea to model it after the simple design of Chevrolet's car hood ornament (the bowtie logo, sources: https://a1.myautoworld.com/2312 and https://1000logos.net/chevrolet-logo). Initially, the two founders wanted to use American elements for the logo of their new restaurant. That's why the initial inspiration was the emblem of the Chevrolet car manufacturer. At the time, the logo was composed of the brand name in letters set in a circle (https://1000logos.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Hard-Rock-Cafe-Logo-1972.png).

The founders wanted their logo to use a blue, white and red color palette to represent the American flag, but this idea was eventually abandoned. Aldridge's result was rather simple. It was a badge logo composed of the company name in brown and white within a yellow circle. Two different fonts were also used.

As for its use, Hard Rock Cafe logo adapts and takes on different versions. First, the name of the city where the restaurant, hotel or casino is located can be found under the word Cafe in the same font. Also, the logo changes if it's a casino or a hotel.

It's also common to see other color combinations used for the Hard Rock Cafe logo. Although the original palette is yellow, brown and white, there are a large majority of versions. Leaving aside the fact that Hard Rock Cafe establishments became known for the celebrity memorabilia they displayed, the brand's main claim to fame was its many promotional items, particularly clothing.

The font type is Aardvark.
