RegioTriRhena is "a cooperation platform that supports trans-border
collaboration projects within the upper Rhine region. Its core areas
are economic and communal issues in the areas of South Baden,
Switzerland and Alsace. Its tri-national network consists of
approximately 250 companies, along with local authorities and
institutions within the three countries." (source: official website).
The RegioTriRhena Council was established in 1995 on the initiative of
three associations—Regio Basiliensis, Regio du Haut-Rhin, and
RegioGesellschaft Schwarzwald-Oberrhein—and was constituted as an
association under German law in 2003.
The area encompasses in Germany: Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district,
Lörrach district, Waldshut district, Freiburg im Breisgau ; in France:
Haut-Rhin ; in Switzerland: Canton of Aargau, Canton of
Basel-Landschaft, Canton of Basel-Stadt, Canton of Jura, Canton of
Solothurn. It brings together cities, groupings of municipalities, and
other local authorities, as well as economic organizations, higher
education institutions, and associations.
