On October 19, 2026, residents of Alberta, Canada, vote in a non-binding
referendum on Albertan independence.
Albertan separatists advocate
secession from Canada. Separatists propose that Alberta variously
1) become an independent republic;
2) form a new union with other western
provinces; or
3) join the United States.
While many separatists
seem content to retain the province’s existing flag (it is often flown at
separatist demonstrations, for example) I have found designs for two
“Republic of Alberta” flags on sale.

is led by the two contending committees "Forever Canada" (https://www.forever-canadian.ca)
and "Stay Free Alberta" Movement (autonomist) (https://www.stayfreealberta.com).

This flag by
Flagmart Canada resembles the existing provincial flag, featuring a shield on a deep
blue ("Alberta blue") field. However, the elements in the current provincial
shield – the St George’s Cross, mountains, prairies and wheat – are presented on
a round shield encircled by the words "Republic of Alberta".

In this flag by
Ward Beach, the elements in Alberta’s provincial shield are presented
within a circle, likewise encircled by the words "Republic of Alberta". However,
the St George's Cross has been replaced with a wild rose (Rosa acicularis),
the province's floral emblem.

Due to conservative political disgruntlement with what they perceive are the
"high tax" policies of Canada's national government, some residents within
Alberta Province in the summer of 2026 began to urge the province's declaration
of independence from Canada -- with possible union with its southern neighbor:
the U.S.A. I saw this flag being flown on a farm in Alberta about 6:15 minutes
into the "NBC Nightly News" program on Sept. 20, 2026, PDT. [This flag image can
be found on various internet ad sites.]
