It is a typical Portuguese municipal flag with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

Shield Argent between two pine trees Vert and trunked and fructed Sable two swallows set in pale flying downwards the upper one dexterwards and the
bottom one sinisterwards, on central chief a bee displayed of Or and Sable.
Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading
in black upper case serifed letters "VILA NOVA DE POIARES".
Meaning:
The bee on the arms stands for the local silk production (if I recall correct), and the pine trees refer to the hardly original local abundance of
them. No idea about the swallows.

Vila Nova de Poiares municipality had 7037 inhabitants in 2000 (6020 in 1990), and it is divided in 4 communes, covering 92 km2.
It belongs to the Coimbra District and to the old province of Beira Litoral.
