New Democracy (website) was formed in 1974 as a center-right party. It was the follower of the Radical National Union, which had been founded by Constantin Caramanlis before the Colonels' junta. ND won the first legislative elections after the restoration of the democracy in November 1974.

"Νέα Δημοκρατία (Ν.Δ.)" (English: New Democracy, ND) was established on
October 4, 1974. Its youth wing, the "Οργάνωση Νέων Νέας Δημοκρατίας, ΟΝΝΕΔ"
(Youth Organisation of New Democracy) was established on October 17, 1974.

The first logo (1974-1985) is
officially described as "Αναμμένος πυρσός, του οποίου η φλόγα είναι στραμμένη
προς το γράμμα Ν και τον οποίον κρατεί ένα χέρι. Η όλη σύνθεσις δύναται να
περικλείεται εντός κύκλου" (English: (a) Lighted torch, whose flame is directed
towards the letter N and which is held by a hand. The whole composition can be
enclosed in a circle) (source:

A stylized version was later on introduced. Additionally, the stylized version
was then used as a template featuring the hand in white, the torch in white blue
colors and the flame in orange to match the two-tone (light blue and navy blue)
color combination.

The second logo (1974-1985) is a change in the flame
color (orange instead of red to match the two-tone (light blue and navy blue)
combination, plus a change in the torch's color (light blue instead of black). A
temporary logo was used in the period 1989-1990 by substituting the torch with a
rainbow.
In the year 2000 a new logo was proposed featuring "τρία
περιστέρια" (three doves) (as a symbol of peace) but it was rejected (source:

The third logo (2010-2018) version features a minimalistic design of the
torch and the letters Ν and Δ which are the party initials, both in blue and
white (sources:

Two additional variants of this logo are the full name instead of the initials
(introduced in 2011) and the same logo featuring the initials but in white and
blue (introduced in 2016) (sources:

After the parliamentary elections held on 7 March 2004, TV reports showing the supporters of New Democracy celebrating their party's victory, as well as the press reports which included the photos, were showing numerous flags of the party, on which the light blue field had a very light shade and the party logo was placed on a horizontal white oval instead of a disc. The oval had an inner blue and an outer white fimbriation.

One of the most frequent variants was the one with the dark blue inner fimbriation.

Another variant of the same flag, which seems to have been less used, was charged with the party name, inscribed in white along the bottom edge.

Another one, the least numerous of them, had an additional small white oval, charged with the party logo, in the canton; this oval had no fimbriations.

Another very frequent variant, which might have actually been the most frequent one, has had the inner fimbriation of the white oval in light blue colour.

In TV reports showing the supporters of ND celebrating their party's winning of the parliamentary elections held on 7 March 2004, several flags could have been seen which had designs completely different from the most of others. One of them was a dark blue-white-light blue vertical triband, with the party logo in centre of the white field

The other one was charged with large party logo and party name, inscribed beneath it in dark blue, and a dark blue horizontal line between them, all on white field.

A light blue flag with the party name inscribed in white in two rows was seen in TV reports from some party rallies in the early 1980s. The people who attended these rallies were waving small paper flags with this design. It is currently not known whether this was an official design or not. Regardless of that, it is worth noting that blue was the party color since the 1970s, probably since the party was founded, and that in November 1989, the light blue monogram "ΝΔ" has appeared as the party logo, along with logos of other parties, in the TV report showing the results of the just held legislative elections.
